We Began the Journey in April 2009_
Jeanette Yoffe, Psychotherapist and Adult Foster Alum/Adoptee “wants to know she is not alone,” and creates a group called the “Adopt Salon Constellation Support Group” which begins at Vista Del Mar. It becomes a free monthly support group for all members of the Foster Care and Adoption Constellation (never heard of in LA!): Birth Parents, Adoptive Parents, Foster Parents (pre & post-adoption), Legal Guardians, Adult Adoptees and Former Foster Youth. Over 60 people attend the first meeting! Group runs every 1st Wednesday of the month for the next 10 years facilitated by Jeanette Yoffe!
“The individuals who attend the Celia center Adopt Salon support meeting have not only allowed me to validate my own feelings surrounding my adoptive experience and reunion with birth family, but has helped me to understand the wounds and losses that my adoptive parent may have suffered on some level that she would never speak about!” – Chris Thomason, Adoptee and Social Worker

Mayor Garcetti has awarded Celia Center a special recognition for their 10 Years Serving the Los Angeles Community. For supporting foster and adopted chidren, teens, adults, and their familes with education, awareness and insight via the Adopt Salon Support Group. HERE is the story about how it all began . . .
In honor of Foster Care Awareness Month, a community training is held at the Electric Lodge called “The Resilient Spirit: From A Child’s Point of View into the Foster Care System: A Guest Panel.“ The panel of speakers follows from a “child’s point of view,” showing the people he/she comes in contact within consecutive order, from when a child enters the system to their emancipation.
With the success of Adopt Salon, Celia Center is formed and named after the Founder’s first birthmother, Celia and becomes an official non-profit 501c3 organization with the State of California.
Mission: Address the critical needs of the Foster Care / Adoption community by providing education and support services to all members of the birth-first-foster-adoption constellation, including professional social workers, nurses, case managers and therapists. We utilize our innovative programs, and national network of allies to create a safe and supportive environment to nurture and preserve strong, healthy families in any orientation or socioeconomic status.

Teens from all around the world, adopted in the United States, come together as one! Adult Adoptee and Foster youth mentors are guests at some groups and they say:
“I wish they had something like this when I was a kid because I think it would’ve helped me tremendously growing up as an adoptee.“
